Drinking with the Animals

Collecting the day’s water from their “faucet”

Dear Friends,

The next time you turn on your faucet for a glass of water, think about the 976 citizens of a small community in Maasai Mara, Kenya. They currently have two options—walk 4 miles to a contaminated well from which several have been reported to have contracted typhoid, or walk to a small reservoir of muddy water that is also shared by local animals. Their water may be “free,” but their medical care bills far outweigh such a benefit, keeping them all in desperate poverty.

Thankfully, that’s about to change.

Deborah Hacking, an American missionary, is a Heaven’s Family partner who is making disciples of Jesus in the Massai Mara area. Her church, a modest congregation of 100 of those disciples, meets under a tree. Deborah has a plan to dig a deep well there for the whole community. Due to its remote location the cost of the well is expected to be $15,000 to $20,000, depending on how deep they’ll need to go to get water. That’s a one-time cost of about $20 for each person in their Massai Mara community to enjoy access to clean, safe water for many years to come! Heaven’s Family’s Safe Water Ministry cannot cover the entire cost, so the Compassion Club will be assisting—it was an opportunity we couldn’t pass up!

Currently the Compassion Club receives a total of about $7,000 each month from wonderful people like you, so that is the amount we will invest in the project. That means the Compassion Club’s investment will be providing clean water for at least 350 of the 976 people of that Maasai Mara community!

Thanks for being a member of the Compassion Club!

Thank you Heavens Family for the wonderful support you are providing for our project in Maasailand, Kenya, (Maasai Threads of Hope Sewing Center) and our missionary Deb Deren. It is much appreciated after 20 years of ministry; it is great to have collaboration like this from another ministry. You are filling a gap we have been desperately trying to do so long. God Bless all you do.
