God of Tears
David's thoughts about this song...
There is a Turkish Proverb that says, "If you speak the truth when everyone else believes and is practicing the opposite, make sure you are sitting on a very swift horse." I've often wished for that swift horse, but I also realize that Jesus loved even the people who rejected Him. In fact, He walked right into the city where he knew they would crucify Him, and He wept for them. This song is born of my personal shame for not shedding more tears for those who have rejected the truth. I pray for more of the Holy Spirit's conviction on them and more of the Holy Spirit's compassion on me. Our God cries. Thanks to Marcelo Guidi for coming all the way from Argentina to sing this song so well. And praise to the One who will one day wipe all our tears!

May I not forget How my Savior stood and wept At Jerusalem When they rejected Him And now I wonder why My eyes remain so dry Surely still my Savior cries As the world dies God of tears Break my heart with what is breaking Yours Fill my eyes With the kind of love that can't ignore What made Jesus stop and cry God of tears At the gravesite of a friend Jesus shed His tears again Not for one who died But for those who cried He wept with those who wept And they knew his heartfelt care Tears so pure and true Of such love may I share There comes a blessed day When God wipes all tears away Mourners then shall dance In His presence And those who sowed with tears Throughout their earthly years With shouts of joy shall reap Treasure to keep |
