I Care, I Died
David's thoughts on this song...
Psalm 33:13-15 tells us, "The Lord looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men; from His dwelling place He looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth, He who fashions the hearts of them all, He who understands all their works." It is an amazing thing that God is able to see everyone in the world, knowing their circumstances as well as what is in their hearts. What incredible contrasts He must behold. What secrets He must know. What misery He must witness. What sin and hypocrisy He must see. Only His great mercy restrains His immediate avenging of evil.
Christ's love in His people reaches beyond their own friends and families. Jesus died for the entire world, and God's people should be devoted to the task of seeing that everyone has a chance to hear the gospel. Research indicates that well over a billion of the world's people have never once heard the name of Jesus. Entire ethnic groups consisting of millions of people are in complete darkness. And so many people who have heard of Jesus have been exposed, not to a gospel that calls people to repentance and to a Christianity of self-denial. Rather, they've heard a false gospel that offers a license for sin, and they've observed a Christianity of self-indulgence. What must be God's opinion of those who pretend to be His people but who have no concern for those who have never heard?
I Care, I Died was written with very little effort on my part. It seemed like it flowed right from the heart of God. I initially could not sing it without crying at some point in the song.

I see a poor old man, who lives in Pakistan, sitting by his fire, as the full moon rises higher • He stares up at the stars, wondering what they are, and who put them there • Is there a God who cares about him? • I care • I died • I bore the guilt for all his sins • But who will go, or send someone? • Who cares enough to tell him what I did? •• A widow in Sudan, driven from her land • I see her face is worn • I see her clothes are tattered and torn • She knows she is My child, and she prays to Me out loud • Asking for some bread • Before her crying daughter is dead • I care • I died • I want to answer her simple prayer • But I've entrusted much to some, so they will use what I've given them to share •• I see a Russian boy • He's never owned a toy • Living on the streets • Scavenging for what he eats, every day • At night he sleeps alone, longing for a home • Where some love is found • Where he can feel some arms around him • I care • I died • I want this child in a family • Who will share their home with him? • Who will show him the love they have for Me? •• I see the millions more, safe behind church doors, wealthy and secure • But to Me they are wretched and poor • They pray that they'll be blessed, that I'll grant them more success • Why do they call Me Lord? • My commandments are ignored • I care • I died • I'm calling you to wake from sleep • When will you understand? • Only those who deny themselves are My sheep
