A Beautiful Land that Sells its Children
Jeff and Karin head to the Philippines to confront the evils of human trafficking
Dear Friends,
The Philippines is a nation made up of more than 7,000 beautiful tropical islands swimming in the emerald seas of the South Pacific. Its people are often judged among the most beautiful in the world. But it’s also a land scarred by crushing poverty, spiritual darkness and, as a result, a low value is placed on human life—especially the lives of innocent children.
We’re headed there this week to check on the work the Human Trafficking & Slavery Ministry has been a part of for the last four years—protecting vulnerable children who live in the slums, from human traffickers. We’ll be spending most of our time at Hope House, a ministry based in the slums, where the raw needs of the poor confront our partner daily.
God has recently been opening a door to help rescue other children, who’ve already been forced into the sex industry by human traffickers (they send them into the streets and split the profits with their parents), and we’ll be looking for ways to increase those efforts. We’re excited to be able to meet many of them, and pour the love of Jesus into their wounded hearts.
As you may have heard in the news, the Philippines has seen increased violence as vigilante-style crackdowns have resulted in the deaths of more than 2,000 suspected drug dealers over the summer months. So we ask for your prayers for protection as well as great impact for the Lord against the horrible evils of human trafficking and slavery.
