Boiling Mad About Unsafe Water

Making happy, healthy bellies in rural Uganda

Dear Friends,

Nearly all the children raised their hands. I had just asked them by a show of hands to tell me who suffered frequently from stomach pain or diarrhea. It shouldn’t have come as much of a surprise—I was in rural Mukono, Uganda, after all. I was so glad that my visit would change that!

That day last November I also met Robert Ssajjabi, the principal of El Bethel Primary School. He was invited to attend a Heaven’s Family-sponsored safe water Sawyer filter training seminar we had organized. About 15 other school directors and pastors in Mukono also attended.

After the meeting we visited Robert’s school. During our tour I asked Robert what motivated him to attend. He answered, “I can’t tell you how much I spend on charcoal [to make fires to sterilize water for drinking] and honestly I don’t believe the cooks even boil the water sometimes!” (It seems he was quite upset about this problem, because he emphatically repeated this 3 or 4 times during our conversation). Robert was THRILLED to receive 3 Sawyer water filter kits that could now effectively remove 99.99% of all bacteria, cysts and parasites and other harmful contaminants from the water the children drink at school—without boiling, and without spending another shilling on charcoal.

A sobering poll: During a brief safe water and hygiene talk we gave while visiting El Bethel school, we asked everyone who suffered much from stomach aches and diarrhea to raise their hands

So many of our spiritual family around the world continue to suffer without clean water to drink. But thanks to your generous donations to Heaven’s Family’s Safe Water Ministry, the children at El Bethel Christian Primary School will now be drinking clean water every day. Thank you so much for caring and making a huge difference in the lives of these children.

May the Lord bless you and pour out His Spirit upon you!

Serving Together,

Diane Scott
