Bursting at the Seams

Judy displays the embroidery artistry now possible (with teachers Jose, Nathanael and Balon)

Dear Friends,

I am so happy to report that the Victims of Sexual Violence Fund has been able to bless the sewing class ladies of the Women’s Wellness Center (Goma, D.R. Congo) with an embroidery and a serger machine! These machines will greatly enhance their ability to make high-quality dresses, blouses, purses and other items.

This is a dream come true for these women who have suffered rape, sexual abuse and rejection in this civil-war-torn northeast corner of the country. They are now being given hope for a future they didn’t dare believe could happen. More importantly, they are learning of their value as cherished daughters of their Father in heaven.

In addition to sewing skills, the ladies at the center can receive training in many other vocational skills, and can also take literacy and health classes, and receive medical attention and a daily meal for them and their children—which quite often is the only food they eat all day.

The center is bursting at the seams, however, because of the influx of more women and their children who have no place to go; they have become pariahs due to what others have cruelly done to them. And although the lease on the building expired many months ago, the ministry staff has been able to forestall eviction thus far, by God’s favor.

Another site has been found that includes dormitory rooms for the injured and displaced, and is situated on several acres of land on which to grow food and raise animals. If you would like to contribute to the provision of a new Women’s Wellness Center, please click the donate button below. Any size gift will help.
