A Capital Idea

Laos is a socialist state where the government regulates many aspects of society and the lives of its citizens. While a hardened outlook seems to be a normal part of life in Laos (evidenced by the faces of many of the local residents) there is still an intense hope and faith in the lives of those who follow Jesus.

Micro-Discipleship

It’s worth it. Keo grips this deep conviction tightly each time his motorcycle’s tires slip on the rutted, monsoon-soaked roads that snake through the wild hills and mountains of Northern Laos. During the long hours—sometimes days—of his hazardous journeys, his thoughts often drift into prayer. Prayer for his mission ahead, and prayers for his wife and two young children he’s left at home. He knows the pursuit of his passion might have dire consequences for those he loves.

Long-Lasting Liberation

"That training has the potential to liberate Kenyans and Africans from the spirit of lack, poverty, and laziness…I am very sure that the Heaven's Family team from the U.S. has brought a long-lasting liberation to many of us." These were the words of Harun, our translator for our Small Business Training (SBT), presented in February by the Heaven's Family Micro-Loan Ministry (MLM) team in Eldoret, Kenya.

Sprouting Seeds

During the Micro-Loan Ministry’s recent visit to Kigumba, Uganda, Isaac and I—along with our newest team member Jenna Liberati—met with some of our incredible micro-bankers. Suffice it to say, this trip left us overwhelmed with evidence of the amazing work the Lord is doing in and through the lives of our borrowers, and one particular borrower stood out to us. We couldn’t wait to share his story with you!

From Scripture to Scripture

Imagine with me, for a moment, that you are a garibou—a young student of Islam in the West African country of Burkina Faso. You were sent to live with the local marabout (Islamic teacher) at a young age to spend your days memorizing the Quran in traditional Arabic, a language vastly different than your own. You continue learning until you are able to recite the Quran by heart, but much of its meaning and application to your life eludes you. But then, you get to hear the words of Jesus in your own language—just imagine the impact that would that have on your life!
