Hurricane Matthew devastates the poor nation of Haiti

Dear Friends,

No doubt you’ve been keeping up with the news about Hurricane Matthew’s destructive tour of the Florida coast. Some of you reading this are being directly impacted. Within hours, the Red Cross, FEMA, the National Guard, and a horde of insurance adjusters will be converging upon affected communities to render aid.

The citizens of Haiti, slammed by 145 mph winds and a huge ocean surge earlier this week, received no such immediate help. In fact, Haiti has no FEMA, National Guard, and none of Haiti’s poor—who make up the vast majority of the population—have any insurance. The death toll has almost reached 1,000 by Friday, and thousands of poorly-constructed homes have been heavily damaged or obliterated.

Eastern Cuba, including the historic town of Baracoa, also received horrendous damage from the historic Category 4 storm.

Heaven’s Family has been serving in both Haiti and Cuba for years. We have friends and partners in both nations. As of this writing, all of them are believed to have survived Matthew, but the cleanup and rebuilding effort will be huge. Equally significant is this opportunity to help our brothers and sisters in Christ, and demonstrate His love to unbelievers. The Disaster Relief Ministry is strategically positioned to help poor disaster victims in both nations.

In the days to come we’ll be communicating with our partners to identify needs and determine how we can best help. Please pray for victims and, if possible, give to the Disaster Relief Ministry so that we can provide food, safe water, medical care, rebuilding supplies and other relief materials to needy victims.

Thank you for your compassion.

Because of Him,

Jeff Trotter
Director, Disaster Relief Ministry
