Hungry Wife, Unhappy Life!

How you helped Moses feed his family.

“I could not raise enough crops to feed my family. On days when I wasn’t working in my field, I would go to my neighbors to seek work. When I was lucky enough to find some, I would earn the equivalent of one U.S. dollar for one day of labor.”

That was the testimony of Pastor Moses Buyinza, a pastor and farmer in rural Uganda. He told me, “I only made enough income from farming and working for others to secure one meal a day for my family. And we only ate four days per week. The rest of the days, we went hungry. When your family is hungry and you cannot afford to send your children to school, your wife will not be happy.” I could only imagine!

Moses and his wife, Baseka, have seven children. All their lives, they were too familiar with what everyone in East Africa calls the “hunger season.” This is when last year’s stored harvest of maize runs out, and everyone goes hungry as they wait for this year’s harvest.

“The hunger season was a time of unbearable desperation for us. I remember one day, we were so famished that we resorted to combing through our neighbors’ fields, hoping to find even a morsel they may have missed. It was a moment of utter helplessness, feeling like I had failed my wife and children, and now they were reduced to scavenging for food like beggars.”

Thankfully, Moses met Joshua, one of Heaven’s Family’s Farming Gods Way trainers. Joshua started training Moses in 2016. Moses immediately started applying what he had learned. He had a very small plot but planted one kilogram of maize seed on it. His first harvest was 200 kilograms!

Since then, Moses has continued to practice Farming God’s Way. He has invested some of his profits into purchasing more land. Now, he owns ½ an acre, and every harvest is bigger and better. He grows not only maize but also beans and peanuts.

“The biggest change in my life since I started Farming Gods Way is that I no longer worry about food,” Moses explained. “My family can now eat three meals every day. And I can send my children to school. Hopefully, they will be able to choose what they want to do for their career.” Moses said his marriage is now filled with joy. His exact words were, “Love is there!” This is the power of Farming God’s Way in action.

Moses’ journey is not just his own. He has become a beacon of hope for about 150 other small-scale farmers. Through his training, they have also embraced Farming God’s Way and are reaping the benefits. This is the true power of your support, transforming not just one life, but an entire community. Thank you for helping lift failing farmers and their families from extreme poverty! To God be all the glory!

Grace and Peace,
