Myanmar Day #1 [Intrepid Travelers]

Left to Right: David Growden, Stephen Servant, Jeff Trotter, Adam Shook, Emily Growden, John CareyOur team of seven arrived at the Bangkok Airport around midnight on Saturday, which is noon back home. It took us three flights and twenty-nine hours to get here. The longest flight was from Chicago to Tokyo, which was fourteen hours of torture. Now we have a seven-hour layover before a short one hour flight to Myanmar. That will make thirty-seven hours of transit.

Most of our team slept sporadically on our flights here, but everyone seems to be in good spirits. We’re looking forward to connecting soon with our two team members from the U.K., Philip and Sandie Barker.

Once we arrive in Myanmar on Sunday morning, I’ll have to be cautious regarding what I write, as my emails could be monitored. Over the course of two weeks, we’re going to be visiting all thirty-three of the orphanages that are sponsored through our Orphan’s Tear Division, but I won’t be able to mention the names or locations of those orphanages in my blog for safety’s sake. I’ll also be using different internet cafes’ and email addresses to relay my blog entries so as to avoid tracking. Most of the harassment that our orphanages face is from very unsophisticated local government officials rather than Myanmar’s federal government, but I prefer to error on the side of caution.

Thanks for joining me on this journey, and I’m looking forward to sharing it with you! — David
