Progress Report: Mathare Slum School

Dear Friends,

You may recall that in May of this year David Servant sent a special letter about a school in the Mathare Slums of Nairobi, Kenya. The majority of the children at that school couldn’t afford the small tuition and, as a result, the school struggled with a high teacher turnover rate, virtually no school books, and low national exam scores.

However, thanks to your support, the children just unpacked their new school books! For some of them, this is the first time in their lives that they have ever held—much less owned—a school book! And they’re very excited about learning!

Your compassion has made a real difference in the lives of these children and their families, whose hopes for breaking the cycle of poverty rests largely on this opportunity to receive a solid education.

We were not only able to purchase all the curriculum for both the elementary and secondary schools, but were able to pay this year’s tuition for a large number of those students who were unable to afford it.

Because of your help the school is making major strides, and we can’t wait to see where it goes from here!

Together in Christ,

CJ McDaniel
