Restore Hope Now

Dear Family,

"We have lost everything. Our home is gone and all our belongings. I don’t know where we will go from here.”

Those are the words of Proscovia Katusiime, who lives in a remote region of Uganda. She and her four children, as well as hundreds of other Ugandan families, recently lost everything due to a flood. Heavy rain waters transformed the streams of the mountainous Bundibugyo District into raging rivers. Proscovia is thankful to be alive. She said that she will never forget the terrifying experience of fleeing with her children as the floodwaters began to fill their tiny home.

We know Proscovia and many of her neighbors because we’ve helped them come to faith in the Lord through one of our Ugandan “Farming God’s Way” (FGW) trainers. All are subsistence farmers, and some had begun receiving FGW training, which would have dramatically improved their future harvests. But now, many have had all, or most, of their crops and fields washed away by the flood. Their simple mud homes are significantly damaged or completely ruined. Their livestock and all their belongings have suffered a similar fate.

Here’s a photo of one of Proscovia’s neighbors trying to salvage what he can recover in the flood’s aftermath:

Before the flood, Proscovia and her neighbors were already very poor by any standard, although they were looking forward to escaping food insecurity through Farming God’s Way. Now, they are as poor as anyone could possibly be. Hundreds of people have been displaced. They are sleeping outside or have found temporary shelter in nearby schools and churches (both very simple and primitive by Western standards).

Proscovia and her four children have it particularly hard. Proscovia’s husband abandoned them some time ago. Her brother then died, so she adopted his two children. Proscovia is the sole provider of her family.

Because the flood victims have lost their crops and livestock, they’ve also lost their livelihoods. They have no income, and their future looks bleak.

No relief agencies, large or small, will be coming to their rescue. There is no media coverage, and their region is remote.

Thankfully, however, because of the network of Christians whom we have trained in Farming God’s Way methods throughout Uganda, the Bundibugyo District believers have received some immediate relief from their Ugandan brothers and sisters in Christ. That is one of the beautiful things about Heaven’s Family’s Farming God’s Way ministry. After their first harvest utilizing FGW methods, rural African farmers have—for the first time in their lives—more food than they can consume, so they can earn some income from selling their excess.

That also means they can share with those who have less. In Uganda, they have done just that for the flood victims, sacrificially. But their relative poverty limits their generosity. Praise God that the Heaven’s Family network spans the globe all the way to us, and we now have the opportunity to demonstrate our love for our spiritual family and for Jesus, who lives in the “least of these.” Now it is time for another flood...a flood of compassion.

You can play a vital role in helping Ugandan families restore their lives to what they once were. Your support will provide food, medicine, bedding, clothing and the rebuilding of homes. Will you help restore hope for families who’ve lost everything?

Not only will your investment help meet the immediate physical needs of your spiritual family members, but your compassion will also help open doors for the gospel to be shared to unbelievers who will also benefit. That’s another beautiful thing about Heaven’s Family’s Farming God’s Way ministry. Anyone who wants to learn FGW methods is required to join a “God’s Love Group,” where they will not only learn revolutionary agricultural techniques, but they will also be introduced to the Lord Jesus Christ. All of our FGW trainers in Uganda are also evangelists!

Thank you for your compassion. Your gifts will be the answer to someone’s prayer, and when they meet you in heaven, they will personally thank you! Won’t that be wonderful?

Blessed to be a blessing,
