Like a bomb explosion…” That’s the noise that woke Daw Thien Nu, pregnant with her third child, in the middle of the night on August 25th. She had moments to reach safety—somewhere out there in the darkness.
That’s how Thien Nu described the bursting of a dam above Tuikhing Village in western Myanmar after it was overwhelmed by weeks of historic rains.
Thien Nu went on to say, “I spent 5 hours in a tree, but the Holy Spirit really dwelling with me. I have no afraid. I just pray, and sing the hymns… Thanks so much for granting blankets, pillows, medicines and purified water. God bless you all!”
Yes, God bless all of you who gave to help victims of natural disasters in 2015!
Not only did you help Thien Nu and the survivors of Tuikhing Village, but you also helped hundreds more in other hard-hit villages in Myanmar. You also came alongside thousands in Nepal after a 7.8-magnitude earthquake claimed more than 9,000 lives and devastated the homes of tens of thousands.
Heaven’s Family was able to respond to both disasters because of your partnership with the Disaster Relief Ministry. Here’s a list of what you you provided:
• Emergency food supplies and safe water;
• Basic medicines, blankets and solar-powered lights;
• Tarps and tents for immediate shelter;
• Corrugated metal sheeting for roofing and home repairs.
Together we also provided much-needed encouragement to believers who were grateful that someone cared enough to help them, and a powerful witness of God’s love and concern for the Hindus and Buddhists who received help in Jesus’ name.
We always strive to prevent disaster victims from becoming dependent on outside help, and instead promote long-term solutions that help them return to self-sufficiency through tools such as micro-credit, small-business training and community development.
The needs of disaster victims can be overwhelming, but by focusing on the needs of the ones whom God places in our path we can make an eternal impact. Helping people like Thien Nu, for example, makes it all worth it.
Thank you for your wonderful partnership with the Disaster Relief Ministry—you are a blessing!
