Widows & Abandoned Women Ministry

Special Issue: 2015 Ministry Directors' Report

Bruce and Patty Harris, Widows & Abandoned Women Ministry

Ann Alugunat after her surgery and praising the Lord; Inset: Ann before surgery, suffering from a 13-year tumor

Ann Alugunat is a widow who lives in Teso Village, Kenya. Since 2002 she had lived with an ever-growing tumor on her jaw that had made it increasingly difficult for her to eat—a problem that led to malnutrition. The people in her village—even her own family—had come to accept that Ann would soon die.

During a 2015 trip to Teso, God arranged for Heaven’s Family staff to meet Ann. Soon it was arranged for Ann to visit doctors to assess her tumor. Then last October, after several tests, Ann was approved for surgery. We’re happy to report that, not only is she still alive, but her 13-year tumor is now gone!

But God wasn’t finished blessing Ann!

Through generous donors the Widows & Abandoned Women Ministry purchased land for Ann and her daughter, Christine, who was abandoned by her husband, to grow food and on which to build a home so they can become self-sufficient. Ann is now sharing her wonderful testimony of God’s love!

Ann’s challenges to provide her family with food, medical care and adequate shelter are faced by many families around the world, especially when the sole supporter of the family suddenly leaves his wife—by death or by abandonment—to fend for herself.

Through our local partners we have been able to meet some amazing Christian sisters who have gone from desperate to hopeful because of your love in 2015. Abandoned women in Kenya and Tanzania, for example, are now supporting themselves with fish, produce and livestock businesses. Widows in Moldova have firewood to keep them warm during the cold winter. A widow in Uganda, whose home was left unfinished by her cancer-stricken husband, is now sheltered. Blankets and food were distributed to widows in Mexico before the cold and rainy winter set in. And this year we plan to bring hope to women in Cambodia, Cuba and other countries.

These acts of love and kindness have only been possible because of generous gifts received from all over the world…gifts that are drawing many to Christ because of the testimonies of these women!

Heaven's Family's Compassion Club

Jesus so clearly described His true followers in Matthew 25:31-46. They are “sheep,” whose love for Him is revealed by their sacrifices for the “least of these.” The “sheep” are contrasted with the “goats,” who may even call Him “Lord,” but who don’t really love Him, as revealed by their lack of compassion for those within whom He lives.

Jesus’ true sheep are born again and transformed by the Holy Spirit. They want to serve Jesus every moment of their lives. They are filled with His love. They’re not “Sunday Christians.”

Heaven’s Family’s Compassion Club is a wonderful means for Christ’s followers to demonstrate their love for Jesus every day through the very means He taught—by serving the “least of these.”
