The Heart of Boaz

A young man’s perseverance pays off

Dear Friends,

From time to time you come across an individual whose uncomplaining servanthood and cheerful disposition endears them to you as few others can. Boaz of Hyderabad, India, is one such person. For the past five years, he has worked alongside the Leprosy Ministry serving as many as three hundred children at a time through a modest Heaven’s Family VBS bringing joy to children of families affected by leprosy in Hyderabad, India.

Boaz has also been our faithful interpreter and hard worker assisting at our medical clinics that can serve up to 20 leprosy colonies each year. Both he and his sister, Sarah, have inherited their mother’s heart as she, Prasanna, cared for her leprosy-afflicted parents until they passed away from the disease. Thankfully, no one in Boaz’s immediate family has contracted the disease since that time.

Although he enjoyed these vocational skills—with which he could have made a modest living—Boaz’s heart was still set on being a worship minister. Last year, my husband Bob and I sent Boaz to a special worship seminar and it was at this point that I became fully convinced that here was a young man whose destiny is to be a minister of God!

The Lord used generous sponsors to enable Heaven’s Family to sponsor Boaz’s high school education, after which we were also able to send Boaz to a “community college.” There, he learned vocational skills in the culinary arts and hotel management and, upon graduation, Boaz became employed through the Hotel Marriott. All the while Boaz excelled in computer science and taught classes for the children in his colony.

Bob and I are happy to report that Boaz has since been accepted to Youth With A Mission’s (YWAM) Multi-Cultural Discipleship Training School and, at the time of writing this update, has arrived in the U.S. and will be staying only five minutes from us on YWAM’s Tyler campus in Texas!

Bob and I felt like proud parents dropping Boaz off—he’s such a fine young man full of promise!

Heaven’s Family has made possible the first phase of Boaz’s training as he pursues a ministry in evangelism and community service, in addition to his love of worship and children. If you would like to help finance any part of this new chapter of Boaz’s life as he walks with the Lord, please give below. Thank you, dear friends, for your generous care and support of leprosy-affected families.

Together in Christ,

Carole Collins
Director, Leprosy Ministry
