Farming God’s Way Fund – Dick’s Blog

Dick’s Blog

As I travel the world helping poor farmers implement Farming God’s Way, I encounter wonderful testimonies. I would like to share a few of them here. Please join with me in rejoicing in the all that the Lord is doing through Farming God’s Way. — Dick Samuels, Director

Malawi, May 2014

In rural Malawi, a home full of sacks of corn, like in the photo below, is a farmer’s treasure trove. These bags of recently harvested maize are cause for great joy and thanksgiving for every poor farmer. One of the poor Malawian farmers told me that being rich was having enough food to feed your family all year. By his standard, I am a very, very rich person.

Today we visited some of the FGW farmers in their remote villages. I knew we were remote because the paths were so narrow and rough that even a bicycle couldn’t travel on them. We walked and walked…by many small houses with thatched roofs. There are no comforts of civilization like roads, electricity, or running water in these villages.

It is harvest time in Malawi, so the women and girls were sitting next to their houses shelling maize (corn). The size of their harvests determines the length of their hunger season. The hunger season starts when they run out of food from their last harvest and it ends at their next harvest. But, for the Farming God’s Way farmers there was joy and celebration! This year there will be NO hunger season for them. Everyone I visited today had harvested more than enough to feed their families until harvest time next year. Chidothi God’s Love Group Expresses Thanks

The members of the Chidothi God’s Love Group were so happy with their harvests that they felt compelled to express their gratitude to Heaven’s Family and to our donors in a tangible way. They gathered together and gave testimonies, praised God with singing, dancing, and with prayers of thanksgiving. Then they presented me with a gift of appreciation for teaching them about FGW and for providing micro-loans for the seed and fertilizer needed to start their FGW farms properly. I was the grateful recipient of a free-ranging, all natural chicken, a gift of great honor and respect. Later that night, I enjoyed a delicious chicken dinner at Pastor Charles Mithowa’s home with his family.

P.S….

Pastor Charles Mithowa is Heaven’s Family’s ministry partner and project manager for Farming God’s Way in this part of Malawi. One evening after returning home from some remote villages, Pastor Charles, in whose home I was privileged to stay, sat with me in his living room and talked after dinner. I got my iPad out to take a photo of his young son Courage snuggling next to me on the couch. After taking some photos, I went to my worship videos on the iPad and started to play some of them. Charles came over and sat beside me as he watched the videos and read the words. Later, Charles’ eldest son, Andrew, came and leaned over the back of the couch and watched. Soon we were all singing along and worshipping the Lord. When I played Terry MacAlmon’s Holy, Holy, Holy Are You Lord, I turned and looked at Charles. Tears were flowing from his eyes. It was sweet, a mini flash-forward to the time spoken of in Revelation 7:9 where it speaks of peoples from all nations, tribes, and tongues worshiping God together.
