First time to Myanmar

Let me tell you a little more about me, and why I love serving as the director of Orphan’s Tear. Our ministry was very young, and we were just starting to help orphanages get their children sponsored. To see first hand what it was all about, I traveled with a team to Myanmar in 2004 when I was just 13 years old. It was my first missions trip overseas.

The last orphanage we visited during our trip was Love in Action Children’s Home. Our team spent the whole day with the children, and a few of the girls really latched on to me. We played games together and did our best to communicate even though we could not speak the same language. As we were all leaving the orphanage at the end of the day, I climbed into the back of the truck that would take us back to the hotel. Unexpectedly, one of the orphans named Dong Chin climbed into the truck, too, and laid her head on my lap and cried.

Confused, I asked our translator why she was crying. She told me that it because she didn’t want me to leave. She was afraid that she would never see me again. My heart touched, I made a promise to her right then to come back again someday.

Now at age 21, I’ve been back to Myanmar six more times—much to the delight of Dong Chin. Little did I know then that I would become the director of Orphan’s Tear these many years later. I am so happy that I get to serve these precious children. They are so close to my heart.

Elisabeth; You are definitely qualified & worthy to be in your position of ministry for the children. Thanks for sharing, that’s important to me, knowing that they have a good shepherd(ess) looking out for them as opposed to a ‘hireling’. ha ha All blessings_You keep me well informed which is important to me, I see you as a friend as well as a sister in Jesus. Jesus doesn’t stand aloof & impersonal & neither do you_that adds a favorable Christian touch for we, the contributors. Thanks
