Myanmar Trip Day 2 – Stinky but successful business!

Dear Friends,

It was an exciting Saturday morning! Twenty-four orphanage directors gathered to discuss how they can make their ministries to orphans self-sufficient within the next five years. Seven of the directors had already started businesses and they shared about their successes and struggles.

Working together, the directors divulged some trade secrets that they’ve learned. One shared a really stinky idea. He said that they used to just feed their pigs rotten vegetables—that is until he heard a strange rumor that claimed that pigs grow much faster if you mix urine into their food! He thought it wouldn’t hurt to try it, so he collected his children’s urine and started mixing it into the pig food…and voila, it worked! All of the directors who have pig businesses left that meeting with a new strategy for growing their pigs fatter faster! I wondered what the children would think of their participation in the new plan…and what my reaction would be the next time I was offered a meal with pork.

I am so enthusiastic about seeing the orphanage directors working together. Together we can increase our ministry to orphans!
