Clean Water in Kasega

24 May

A time to celebrate: these villagers will no longer be forced to drink foul water from the Nile River!

“Hallelujah, we now have safe water!” That is a very loose translation of what the children of Winners Academy, a primary school in rural Uganda, expressed after a 2,500-gallon rainwater collection system was installed last January in Kasega Village. As a result, 60 families and 250 school children will now be able to drink healthy water for the first time in their lives.

Previously, their primary source of drinking water was the upper waters of the Nile River, a two-and-a-half mile roundtrip that had to be made on foot several times a day. Besides the time and effort expended to fetch their water, they also faced many life-threatening challenges in doing so. The Nile is loaded with parasites and other disease carrying organisms, chemical pollutants and sewage. As a result, the small village clinic had been treating more than 200 cases of parasites each month, not to mention several other illnesses related to unsafe water. And then there were always the occasional water couriers who never returned, victims of crocodiles at the river or ambush along the way.

During the installation process, our Ugandan Water Project partners were able to share the gospel and shower Jesus’ love on the adults and children of Kasega Village. Click here to watch a short video.

Through gifts to Heaven’s Family’s Safe Water Fund, we funded the entire project. Thank you so much for helping to change the lives of so many in Kasega!

Your gifts made a tremendous difference in the lives of these Kasega villagers
