Every month, Heaven’s Family helps far more people than we could ever highlight in our bi-monthly newsletter. For that reason, this page contains additional photos and stories of some of the “least of these” among our spiritual family whom we’ve recently been blessed to serve.
Vanessa, a 6-year-old girl, lives in a rural Kenyan village where she shares a small one-room shack with her mother, father, and younger sister. She happily dresses in the same blue uniform each day and makes her way down the 1-mile path of red dirt road that she walks to school.
Haryana, India - Our partners in northern India are called to bring the gospel to northern Indian villages that have never heard of Jesus. This part of India is controlled by militant Hindu followers and India as a nation is rated as an extreme persecutor of believers. Many of these villages are impoverished and lack clean water to drink.
I always enjoy visiting my brothers in East Africa. But I get to hear about these incredible stories every month, so it was a treat to have fresh eyes with me on this trip. Heaven's Family staff members David, Stephen, and Jonas came along and helped to photograph and interview some of the farmers and disciple-makers we work with. It was a joy to see their reactions. I hope this brief trip report stirs your heart in the same way it did theirs.
"If we go by this same speed and by the same strategies, how many years will it take to reach this nation (India)? It will take hundreds of years." Pastor Thomas told his team. There are 4,000 unreached villages in his state alone. Pastor Thomas wants to reach everyone but realized his current strategy isn't the fastest. He used to train people in Bible school for 4-6 years, then tell them to start a church. After 25 years Pastor Thomas is changing his strategy and moving toward Disciple Making Movements. He is training his church planters to equip new believers to make disciples. This training approach just started in July but we are already seeing its impact.
For 20 years, Leelamani suffered in an extremely abusive situation with her alcoholic husband. He used to beat her physically, lock her outside of the house overnight, and deny her food for days. On many nights, Leelamani cried herself to sleep. She became depressed and hopeless.
Burt and I have been in Kenya for about a week. Yesterday we had the privilege of reuniting with Grace, a girl who has overcome a heartbreaking story!
