Charity looks over her shoulder again at the cart she strapped to her bicycle. She double-checks all the connections, but each bump in the road gives her concern for her precious cargo. The small sacks of rice, oil, soap and medicine remain secure, however, so she breathes a sigh of relief. Back in her village, 30 North Korean Christian families are waiting patiently for her return—they depend on it.

A Secret Disaster

I wanted to make you aware of an urgent situation inside North Korea that most major news agencies are not covering. Two weeks ago a monsoon struck the Northern portion of the Korean peninsula. The storm has caused horrific damage to the small cities and farming villages in the area. Initial reports indicate that at least 40 have died and 11,000 were displaced from mudslides, building collapses, and drownings.

A Secret Meeting [Ben’s 3rd and Final Blog from South Korea]

I emerged from the subway at the agreed-upon rendezvous point and straight into a rainstorm. Droplets of water immediately began spilling down my face, making it a challenge to scan the busy street around me for my contact. Then I spotted her across the street, taking shelter in an empty coffee shop. How interesting, I thought, that crowds of hurried South Koreans were unknowingly shuffling by one of the greatest North Korean smugglers of our time.
