Balloons of Blessing [Ben’s 2nd Blog from South Korea]

Something felt wrong. Our driver cautiously pulled our truck to the side of the lonely dirt road. Around us the forest pressed in; all was eerily quiet. Thus far, we had been the only vehicle on in this remote stretch of road, but up ahead, through some branches, we can see the outline of a car—parked across our path. Have we been discovered?

Life on the Run [Ben’s 1st Blog from South Korea]

I came to South Korea to meet with a group of people risking their lives to rescue North Korean Christians. Just a few short hours after landing I was running. Around me, Koreans were pounding the pavement as well, their legs moving as fast as their lungs enabled. We were running hard...for exercise. Thankfully, nobody was chasing.

Persecuted Christians Fund

Hardcore Muslim. That aptly described "Shaheem," a respected Islamic scholar and imam of a prestigious mosque and college in India. That was, however, before he failed at an assigned task to win back to Islam a convert to Christ. After their long debates, Shaheem the imam became Shaheem the follower of Christ. And so he was baptized—a potential death-sentence for those who turn away from Islam. Through our Persecuted Christians Fund, Heaven's Family helped relocate Shaheem to another country where he could be safe, attend Bible school, and prepare for ministry.

Abandoned by Country, Remembered by Christians

Eli walked home, head and shoulders drooped in despair. The North Korean government, headed by a man-deity whom Eli was lead to believe would always provide, had abandoned him in his time of greatest need. Looking at his military uniform, worn from years of faithful service, Eli wondered if it really had been all for nothing.

Glad to be a “Man of the Book”

To an average American like myself, all 20 of the men in the room looked like members of Afghanistan's infamous Taliban. Some were even wearing turbans. We sat silently on the rug-covered floor, leaning against cold walls, waiting for our meal to be served. I was feeling a little bit uncomfortable, an odd American, likely one of the few Westerners who'd ever ascended the long valley that led to their remote mountain village, 10,000 feet above sea level.

Flight to Freedom

Mi Young lay on the muddy riverbank, wet, shivering, and exhausted, clutching her teenage son, Jae. They had just done the unthinkable: under cover of darkness, they'd illegally swum across a river that separates North Korea from China—without being shot by border guards. Now, however, it seemed that hypothermia might succeed where border guards had failed.

Part-Time Work, Eternal Benefits

My name is Kyan. I’m 45 years old. I have a wife and two children. That may not interest you, nor will my lowly day job…but perhaps my part-time work will. You see, I’m a smuggler for the underground church in North Korea. In 2007, I began illegally crossing the border of North Korea into China to find food for my family, just like many other desperate families have to do. During my visits, I met kind Christians who helped me gather the supplies I came searching for. They also invited me to attend their secret worship services where I met Jesus Christ. My new friends even opened a safe house near the border where those like me could be discipled in our new faith.
