A Win-Win Situation

Peter Cung is a Heaven's Family-sponsored national missionary. He knows that God has called him to serve his own people in Myanmar. So every day, he ministers to the poor and preaches the gospel, and he often sees people repent and make Jesus their Lord. He knows from experience that not everyone responds to God's invitation the first time, so he is patient.

An Xiang’s New Ride

It was impossible to look at An Xiang (pronounced awn-shy-awng) without feeling pity for him. He was lying on a crude wooden bed in the corner of the room, his arms and legs contorted and atrophied. We had just hiked into his remote village in China's Yunnan Province, up miles of narrow mountain paths, arriving in the darkness. Xiang's room was illuminated by a cooking fire beside his bed, over which a blackened tea pot was suspended. Smoke filled the room. Although Xiang had limited ability to control his arms, legs and facial expressions, he smiled as he looked at us, his unexpected visitors.

A Monk’s New Master

I hate my parents! The bitter words seethed deep within the heart of Duang Tawjan. How could they choose to leave Buddhism, the faith of our people, for a foreign religion? Although a teenager, Duang had already become a devoted Buddhist monk. When his parents told him that they had converted to Christianity, he felt that he had no choice but to disown them. It wasn't easy, however, especially in light of their efforts to maintain their relationship with him. And they were different people after their conversion. Their changed lives further fueled Duang's doubts about Buddhism, which were already being fed by the hypocrisy he witnessed at the monastery where he lived.

God’s Wonder Women

Knocking on doors and sharing the gospel in Muslim neighborhoods would strike fear into the hearts of most Westerners, who too often perceive all Muslims as enemies and terrorists. There are, however, some female followers of Jesus in South India who are not afraid to boldly carry the light of the truth into the darkness of Islam. They are God's "Wonder Women," and they work as servants of Bishara Mission Center, a ministry that is regularly supported by Heaven's Family. Five of Bishara's Wonder Women are Smitha, Akani, Kehkile, Keheusamiyile, and Mariathon (see photo above). God is using all five women to reach Muslims for His glory.

I Prayed 10 Years for this Bible

"You must be an angel!" Yang Mei told the courier. He had just handed her a brand new Chinese Bible, something she would never have dared to purchase, as she knew too many believers who had been imprisoned after purchasing government-printed Bibles. She had resigned herself to the fact that she would never own a copy of God's Word. "Glory to God for the big and great present you have given me!" Yang Mei exclaimed, bubbling with joy. It was a dream come true.

A Book, a Bike, & 40 Churches

She’s never slept in a bed. She’s never stood under a shower. She lives in a mud hut. She’s an amazing woman of God. I first heard about Selina Akorio in 2006 from one of our Kenyan ministry partners who, after reading The Disciple-Making Minister, became very passionate about making disciples and planting house churches. Selina was one of his early disciples, and she was soon making disciples of her own among her people, the Turkana, a primitive tribe of northern Kenya. In Selina's first six months of ministry, she planted ten house churches. I wrote an article about her in the December 2006 issue of Heaven's Family's magazine.

Who Needs God?

Who needs God? Jennifer Naliaka certainly didn't. For her, life was good. She was married, had three healthy children, and one was on the way. All their needs were met. Besides, Jennifer did dabble in religion, occasionally attending a local church in her home village of Saboti, Kenya. Who needs God?
